On Saturday, August 18 Joy Mission Center held their second summer Family Movie Night. Summer Creek Baptist Church sponsored the event by providing decorations, an inflatable bounce-house and obstacle course, a Chick-Fil-A dinner, special treats, games, volunteers to run the event, and more! It was such a fun night for everyone! Eighty of Joy’s community members came to play, hang-out, and watch the movie Ferdinand. Each child that came got to pick a new backpack filled with school supplies. We gave away over 50 backpacks that had been donated by our faithful volunteers Kathy and Frank Deleon and the NAMB Send Relief Backpack Ministry. After the movie, Joy’s Area Missionary Noe Ortiz shared the gospel with the families by relating Christ’s substitutionary atonement to the way Ferdinand went into the bull-fighting ring in the place of the movie’s antagonist. Noe made it clear that Ferdinand is only a small picture of what Jesus did for us because Jesus went further than fighting in our place to dying in our place, then raising to life again bringing forgiveness of sin and reconciliation to God. This event was a perfect occasion for the Joy staff and SCBC church volunteers to meet new neighbors and deepen existing relationships in the community. At MCH, our hope is that every encounter we have with our community is an opportunity to share the gospel as we love, serve, and enjoy fellowship with the people God has guided to our ministries.
