In 1965, Joy Fellowship Center was added to the ministry. Joy Fellowship Center was named after an experience that MCH's founder, Mildred McWhorter, had while in the neighborhood. As Mildred and other founders were considering the site of the current mission, neighborhood children ran towards her in hopes of a community center being opened on their behalf. Mildred said the expression of "joy" on the faces of the children caused her to name the site Joy Fellowship Center. To this day, Joy Fellowship Center hosts hundreds of children each month in the after-school programs offered to the Magnolia Park community.
