Urban Immersion (Summer Groups)
We are so glad that you are considering investing a part of your summer with us! During your time serving with Mission Centers of Houston, we hope that you will have countless transformational opportunities to encounter ways in which God is at work within the rich diversity of inner-city culture. We are looking for highly motivated, service-oriented individuals and teams who are eager to engage with the real issues that face those in urban neighborhoods. We are committed to guiding you through a combination of physical labor, relational investment and spiritual growth during your partnership with Mission Centers. Our ultimate prayer, however, is that this week-long cross-cultural experience serves as a springboard for lifestyle practices of spiritual formation, servant leadership, community investment and cultural sensitivity.
Stemming from our commitment at Mission Centers to building mutually meaningful relationships and participating in positive, sustainable change in our neighborhood, we seek to utilize small teams of individuals who are especially drawn to working in an inner-city environment. With the exception of one unique, week-long "first step" experience each summer, our teams are expected to arrive with preexistent service experience as well as with an openness towards cross-cultural experiences. In light of this "next step" mission opportunity, we ask each of our team members to display the following:
- Each team member demonstrates an active commitment to Jesus Christ.
- Each team member, including leadership, participates in all activities and programs as led by the staff of Mission Centers of Houston.
- Each team member exhibits a desire to learn from, serve alongside of and both give and receive love from our neighbors.
- Each team member carries some experience in serving others through previous mission trips, church service projects, school service clubs, ministry programs, etc.
If your group does not qualify as an experienced, "next step" team, please contact our Associate Director directly as we have one week set aside for "first-time" groups.
