Helping More People Through Strategic Partnerships

One of the ways we’ve been able to stretch our food budget and at the same time help feed more people at Mission Centers of Houston is by partnering with Second Servings, Houston’s only prepared and perishable food rescue organization. Since we began our affiliation in April 2017, we have received almost 140,000 pounds of high quality surplus food from many of their 250 food donors.  Several times a week, we receive chef-prepared banquet meals, fresh produce, dairy products, and much more at NO COST, and as seen in the photo, we occasionally pick up a truck-load of surplus food from food shows.  Receiving this bounty regularly gives our clients the opportunity to enjoy upscale food and variety that they might not otherwise experience.  In total, the retail value of the food we’ve received during our partnership over the last 3 years has a value of over $900,000!

We are so grateful to Second Servings! If you would like more information, please visit their website at www.secondservingshouston.org.

Mission Centers of Houston first “Bless the Homeless” Event

The Gano Mission Center staff was ecstatic when Pastor Chris Hall from Houston Northwest Church (HNW) called about a year ago to offer us the use of their  shower/laundry disaster recovery trailer.  They purchased it in response to Hurricane Harvey, but now they wanted to see it used when not deployed to a disaster site to help the homeless in Houston.
